England - Antique Copy of Ultra Rare 1644 Oxford Crown See Description
Silver or silver plated on base metal. This is a beauriful and old copy of the 1644 Oxford Mint crown, by Rawlins, of which only 11 or 12 originals are known. It is also a unique type, with a view of the town in the distance behind the King's horse. The reverse features the Declaration, of the king's supporting " Protestant Religion, English Law, and a Free Parliament " The mintmark OXON appears on both sides. Because of the rarity and beauty of this coin, copies have been produced since the 18th century, and are highly collectible. The few originals in private hands, when traded, bring prices well into six figures. This piece is possibly an elecrtotype, but has the toning of old silver, and has been in a coin cabinet of the Seminary for many years. It weighs 24.7 grams, and measures 41 mm.
