Factory Punch-Dot Engraved Merwin & Hulbert 2nd Model Pocket Army Single Action Revolver, #1879, .44-40 cal., 3-1/4'' barrel, nickel finish, with factory checkered hard rubber bird's head grip. This 2nd Model revolver features factory punchdot floral intaglio engraving, frontal view of sailing vessel in circular panel to left sideplate, barrel wedge, scoop cylinder flutes, and no topstrap. Left side of frame marked ''Caliber/Winchester 1873''; right side of barrel with Hopkins & Allen address and patent dates; right side of frame marked ''Merwin, Hulbert & Co. NY/Pocket Army''. Introduced in 1880, the earliest Pocket Army such as this was concurrent with the 2nd Model Frontier Army, thus no 1st Model Pocket Armies were ever produced, making this variation the earliest known and only being produced for approx. two years before the introduction of the 3rd Model. Condition is very good to near fine retaining approx. 85% original nickel thinning and toning with most of !
the losses relegated to small portion of cylinder. Case hardened hammer has thinned and silvered to approx. 20%. Fire blue trigger retains some iridescent hues. Grips show light to just moderate flattening. Action is tight, bore is very good with light general frosting. Est.: $3,500-$4,500.
