Enfield Pattern 1842 Rifled Musket, by Tower (1854), NVSN, .75 cal., 39'' barrel, blue finish, case hardened lockplate and lightly engraved hammer, with deep knurled tip; walnut stock neatly marked ''S. Prescott'' to left side between lockplate screws; brass buttplate, triggerguard and forend tip, as well as brass ferrules for steel cleaning rod, which is present. Condition is fine. Barrel retains about 90% blue. Tang screw and aperture bar to rear sight retains brilliant niter-blue hues. Stock with light general overall scuffs and scratches, more heavily encountered to left side in area adjacent to trigger, showing mostly as small losses, deeper scratches, and some mild fissures from shrinkage. Good action and bore. This is the first English made-as-percussion musket to be issued to line regiments of the British Army. Est.: $1,500-$2,500. (Antique)
