This is an original signed oil painting by the noted Hungarian artist, Endre Komaromi Kacz (1880-1969). In English the artist's name is commonly spelled Katz. Depicted here is a familiar subject for Kacz, namely a warm interior scene with a woman reading a book on a daybed. Frame measures 25.5" x 30.2" and canvas measures 21.4" x 26". Weight is approximately 7-8 lbs. Frame appears to be original to the work. Back of the canvas was painted over but the canvas has not been relined. This work was recently purchased in Budapest and carries the stamped mark of the Magyar Nemzeti Galeria, the National Gallery of Hungary, indicating it was authenticated there for the purpose of export as required by Hungarian law.

Additional images forwarded upon request.

Kacz studied under Ede Ballo at the Academy of Budapest, and is also said to have studied with Simon Hollosy and Gyula Benczúr (Banzzur). In 1908 opened his own studio in Budapest. In 1918 he had a one man show in the Mucsarnok and exhibited there regularly. He was the recipient of numerous awards and represented Hungary in many international competitions. He received the prestigious Rath prize for a work entitled "Morgenstimming" in 1924. He is listed in the Bénézit.
