Extremely Rare EP-150 Twelve Cents “Hunt & Nash, Irving House” With Plain Frame Rarity-8 (5 or so Known)

EP-150, HB-155, S-110. Reed-IH12. Twelve Cents. HUNT & NASH, IRVING HOUSE. Plain Frame. Extremely Fine.

Listed as Rarity-8 (5 to 10 Known), according to Fred Reed. Likely about five known to exist. The black 12¢ George Washington stamp is near perfectly centered and remains dark black, seen under full solid mica that is crystal clear and unbroken. The case is a natural chestnut in color with some mottled deeper brown toning about the reverse. It shows light even wear and is absolutely authentic, grading Extremely Fine. The reverse legends are sharp and clearly defined. There are no marks or major detractions. One of the more elusive highlights of the series and a top rarity in this Encased Postage Stamp auction section. Provenance: Ex: Stack’s, John J. Ford, Jr. Collection Sale, June 2004, Lot 527 (no insert tag present) and Robert Siegel Auction, April 2008 (no insert tag present). Listed in “The Standard Catalog with all “dashes” in all grades, in place of values due to its great rarity. This important rarity being the single Finest EP-150 we have offered.
