Magnificent American Empire period secretary desk, Ca. 1835; probably New York; constructed of the finest matched grain crotch mahogany veneer over pine; features a hooded crest with wide flaring molding above 2 seven-pane, gothic arch doors and supported on either side by obelisk type columns; lower section is designed with a large top drawer with unusual double "O-Gee" front which drops forward to reveal a fully fitted interior with door, drawers and pigeon holes (all faced in the same top quality mahogany); below the desk section are 3 more drawers which are flanked by 2 "obelisk" type columns; all rests atop 4 casters; surface is old and in nice rich color; losses, raised areas and old repairs to areas of veneer; 95" tall x 50.75" wide x 23.5" deep.
