Lot of 3. Empire Ranch sprung up during the California Gold Rush. It was founded in 1851 by Thomas Mooney (who signed one of these stocks). It later spread and became Smartsville. 1) Eureka Consolidated Mining Company. Location: Nevada County, Cal. (printed to the left of vignette). Dateline Empire Ranch, Yuba Co., Oct. 4th, 1863. Inc. July 1863. No. 280, issued for 15 shares to John Farrill. Signed by president Thomas Mooney (founder of Empire Ranch) and the secretary. Not cancelled. Black border and print. Two vignettes: farming scene (left) and California State seal (center). Printed by Towne & Bacon, SF. 25 cent revenue stamp attached on the left. Folds, creases. 5.5 x 10" Notices of stockholder meetings were found on CDNC. According to one in the Marysville Daily Appeal (July 3rd, 1863), the company owned the Green Lead Mine. The Green Lead Mine was a copper claim in the Spenceville District west of Grass Valley [mindat.org]. 2) Marysville Tunnel & Quartz Mining Company. Location, Empire Mining District, Yuba County, Cal.
