True classical taste here ? it is an exceptional fine classical sofa. It dates from the early 1800?s. It is American. It is in an exceptionally nice figured mahogany, which is brown and rich. It has the boldest shell carving on each arm. It has an architectural base, which is very square in design and simple. It rests on four feet that are outrageously carved and shaped with acanthus leaves. I believe at one time the sofa had castors which are now gone but could be replaced in a heartbeat. The condition of the sofa is very very good. It has very recent new upholstered fabric in a very expensive flame stitch. Structurally it is very sound ? it has one or two old repairs that I can see which is absolutely normal for a sofa of this age. It is ready to use if you like this fabric ? which is actually pretty extravagant for this sofa ? I like it. If you don?t ? it is a simple matter of just having a recovery not a full upholstery job. So here you are ? a Classical American Sofa dating from the early 1800?s. I feel it could quite possibly be attributed to the famous Philadelphia furniture maker ? Anthony Quervelle ? it looks to be very much his style. The sofa is approx 82? at widest x 23? at deepest x 32 5/8? at highest Shipping is easy and I can make all the arrangements for you.
