Rare Santa Cruz mining! Location: Santa Cruz District, Santa Cruz, Cal. (printed to the left and right of the vignette). Inc. Aug. 4th, 1863. No. 64, issued for 10 shares to W.G. Cooper on Sept. 26th, 1863 in San Francisco. Signed by president AB Winegar and secretary Alfred Meyers. Not cancelled. Black border and print, gray background. Vignette of miner pushing ore cart out of mine entrance (center) and a small American flag (bottom center). Printed by Robbins & Co. 25 cent adhesive IR stamp at left. Folds, one bent corner, a few stains around the edges. 5.5 x 9.75" Not listed in Filer or Holabird indexes. No additional info found on CDNC. Gold in Santa Cruz County was extracted from creeks in the Ben Lomond and Felton areas, small quartz veins in granitic rocks in Ben Lomond Mountain, and from the ocean beaches along Monterey Bay.
