ALS in French, one page, 5.25 x 8, September 9, 1880. Letter written from Médan, in full (translated): "I give you the authorization which you request of me to reproduce 'Une page d'amour' in the 'Little Lorraine' and my conditions agree with yours. I shall accept the sum which you are able to pay. Receive, Monsieur, the assurance of my distinguished regard." In fine condition. Une page d'amour, the eighth novel in Zola's Rougon-Macquart series, was first serialized between December 11, 1877, and April 4, 1878, in Le Bien public, before being published in novel form by Charpentier in April 1878. Set among the petite bourgeoisie in Second Empire suburban Paris, the work has seen four film adaptations and has been translated several times, with various iterations of the title: Hélène: A Love Episode, A Love Episode, A Page of Love, A Love Affair, and A Love Story.
