(18.1 cm) high Estimate: - $3,000-5,000 Illustrated Paola Antonelli, ed., Sitting on the Edge: Modernist Design from the Collection of Michael and Gabrielle Boyd, San Francisco, 1998, p. 162 Exhibited San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Sitting on the Edge: Modernist Design from the Collection of Michael and Gabrielle Boyd, November 20, 1998-February 23, 1999 Works by Middletown Silverware are extremely rare, and the designer of this set was unknown until this year. On January 24, 1928, Elwood Cornell filed for a patent on a teapot of the same design and on January 7, 1930, it was granted (U.S. Patent No. 74,863). The extremely progressive pattern seems inspired by the famed "Cubic" service by Erik Magnussen, as well as the work of Elsa Tennhardt.
