Fabulous collection of seven items from the collection of Elvis’s close friend Sgt. William A. Norwood, highlighted by a vintage color glossy 3.5 x 5 candid photo of Elvis in his military uniform in front of his Fort Hood barracks, boldly signed and inscribed on the reverse in black ballpoint, “’58,’ To Sgt. Norwood—‘Thanks for everything,’ Elvis Presley.” Also includes four unsigned vintage circa 1958 candid photos of Elvis in the military, ranging in size from 3.75 x 2.75 to 5.5 x 3.5, including one of him laying down outdoors and three of him with fellow soldiers inside the barracks. Additional items are a satin-finish 8 x 10 portrait photo of Elvis in uniform, stamped on the reverse, “Publication or public use of this photo requires release by the U. S. Army Public Affairs Office,” and two typed letters from 1990 to Sgt. Norwood asking about interview opportunities. In overall fine condition, with a few creases to the signed photo. Sgt. Norwood was given the assignment of training Presley upon his arrival at Fort Hood, and the two soon became friends. Homesick, Elvis spent much of his time at the Norwood residence and became close to the family. With impeccable provenance, this is a truly extraordinary collection from Elvis’s storied military days.
