Interesting collection of financial material relating to Elvis Presley’s early recording days with rock-and-roll pioneer Sam Phillips at Sun Studio (Memphis Recording Service). The collection includes: four W & W Distributing invoices, three of which are carbon copies, dated between August 1954 and September 1955, with two approved by Phillips, and one bearing the signature of Marion Keisker, who is best remembered as the first person to record Elvis Presley, on July 18, 1953; a group of six invoices issued to Sun Records by the Paramount Record Company, with each relating to “stamper” and “label” orders, dated between July and November 1955; a set of seven Western Union telegrams directed to Phillips and the Sun Record Company by the Monarch Record Manufacturing Company, with the majority requesting “Mothers” and “labels,” dated between November 1954 and November 1955; a set of three handwritten letters from Nate Duroff of Monarch Records, each addressed to Phillips; an invoice concerning the sale of 10 stampers to Monarch Records, dated July 25, 1955; and a handwritten note, unsigned, dated January 9, no year: in full: “Paramount, Night letter, Distressed to learn from Bills of Lading that Presley records shipped to Indiana 1/5. Please stop all shipments Presley as per our instructions. Most important. Sun Rec. Co.” In overall very good to fine condition.
