An Autowind Sovereign 17 Jewels adjustable watch with gilt. Gifted by Elvis to his manager Colonel Parker and engraved on the reverse Colonel Always Elvis". Elvis was well known for his considerable generosity and this gift was no exception. The watch was presented by Elvis to his long time manager Colonel Tom Parker. Parker was central to the story of the rise of Elvis and has long been a controversial figure. He took over his management in 1955 and had him signed to RCA Victor shortly afterwards. Recognising the talent and marketability which Elvis possessed he helped make him a star. The Sovereign brand of watch was particularly popular during the 1950s and at an early stage in the relationship between Elvis and the Colonel. At a time when the median annual household income was approximately $5,500 this watch cost over a weeks wages and was a generous gift by any standards. An extremely desirable piece and a scarce item concerning the relationship between Elvis and his manager"
