Elmer Westley Greene Jr., a portrait artist who painted many prominent persons, died yesterday in New Boston, N. H., where he had been vacationing. He was 57 years old and main­tained a studio and residence here at 1 West 67th Street.
Mr. Greene, a native of Bos­ton, studied at the Massachu­setts School of Art and the art school of the Boston Museum. Among the portraits he painted were those of Pope Pius XII, Cardinal Spellman, the late President Herbert Hoover, for­mer Gov. LeRoy Collins of Flor­ida, A. P. Giannini, the banker; Representative Joseph W. Mar­tin Jr. of Massachusetts and Erwin N. Griswold, dean of the Harvard Law School.
