1924 Elmer Layden Handwritten Signed Letter. Lengthy six-page correspondence (three pages, front and back) is in the elegant black fountain pen hand of this highly collectible member of Notre Dame's Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Interestingly, the 1924 date of this letter happens to be the year that Grantland Rice assigned that timeless moniker to the Fighting Irish backfield. Layden's love note to his future wife tells of a bad illness he has recently suffered, and of his affection for the letter's recipient. "…If there's another excursion to Chicago, you take it and keep right on to South Bend. I surely would like to see you, honey, for a while-as long a while as you could stay…" His closes by writing, "With all my love, Elmer." Includes original mailing envelope with South Bend postmark. Pages show original mailing folds, otherwise NRMT. All ink is 10/10. LOA from PSA/DNA.
