Very rare portions of the Confederate flag which Colonel Ephraim Ellsworth, a close friend of President Lincoln, attempted to tear down which resulted in his immediate murder. Flag portions, one red and one white, each measure 1.5'' x 1.25''. Also included is a 3/8'' x 1/8'' swatch of finely-woven crimson fabric identified as a piece of Ellsworth's shirt. Originally from the collection of Norm Flayderman, a world-renowned Civil War collectibles author since 1952. Lot also accompanied by a statement detailing the provenance.
