The color photograph shows the artist sitting naked and cross-legged in front of a mirror. Between her thighs and breasts she has clamped a copy of the eponymous Nazi propaganda brochure while she photographed her reflexion with the camera in her hand. The photograph was published in the Edition Eikon of the Austrian Institute of Photography and Media Arts in Vienna.

The color photograph is numbered, signed and dated on the reverse with black felt pen ‘12/40+IV Elke Krystufek 2001‘. It is framed in a plain beech tree ledger with slight wear and is in very good condition. The sheet measures 100 x 70 cm, the frame measures 107.5 x 76.5 cm.

Elke Krystufek (b. 1970)

From 1988 to 1993, the Vienna-born Elke Silvia Krystufek studied under Arnulf Rainer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Her first major solo exhibition with the title ‘I am your mirror’ took place in 1997 at the Wiener Secession. Till 2006 Krystufek taught as a visiting professor in Linz and Karlsruhe and has held a professorship in Vienna from 2005 to 2006. In 2011 her play ‘Hub’ premiered in Vienna. Today the artist lives in Vienna and Berlin. (fea)
