A LIMITED EDITION OF 280 COPIES of which 265 were for sale; this is copy no. 183. With four HAND COLOURED PLATES as well as many smaller black and white illustrations amongst the text. A classic account of Rivers’ time spent in the Aran Islands, seeking inspiration for her artworks; illustrated by herself. Also with this lot is Frank O’Connor’s A Picture Book, illustrated by Elizabeth Rivers, published by the Cuala Press, Dublin, 1943. A LIMITED EDITION OF 480 COPIES of which 450 were for sale; this is copy no. 84. Contains fifteen black and white plates by Rivers, who ranks as one of the top British book illustrators of her generation and certainly the best working in Ireland at the time. Both works are foolscap octavo, bound in original printed boards backed with linen, with paper spine labels; also with a printed catalogue of books printed at the Dun Emer and Cuala Presses inserted at back of the second title. A scarce and most desirable pair. (2)
