Elizabeth II 50 Cents 2000, Struck on an USA Sacagawea $1 planchet. MS64 PCGS. A rare mint error that is made possible because (unknown to most U.S. collectors) the planchets for Sacagawea Dollars are produced in Canada. This is a very significant dual country striking that should be of interest to collectors in both Canada and the United States. The surfaces are bright and lustrous with none of the mellowing or browning seen on these planchets after only a short time. A few light handling marks are scattered over each side which account for the grade. It our understanding that only some of the planchets for the 2000 Sacagawea $1 coins underwent parts of the pre-striking processes at the facilities of the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg because of the large number of Sacagaweas that were being struck in 2000 (the year of its introduction), and that for 2001, and subsequent years, the preparation for and the striking of the Sacagaweas has been carried out entirely at the facilities of the U.S. Mint. The likelihood of any future errors of this type is negligible and the coin being auctioned (it was this coin that was the subject of the initial article in Coin World) is possibly unique. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
