ALS, three pages on two sheets, 5.5 x 9, November 22, no year. Letter to “Mr. Rockwood.” In full: “What I desire is that you get the names, all right in a small photograph, & send me two or three, then I will send one to the artist, who is making the pictures for my book. I do not wish to send the large picture lest it should be injured. Moreover the book man prefers a small picture to copy. Am sorry to bother you so much, but we are in a hurry to get all the pictures ready by Dec. 1st.” Second page bears a postscript initialed “E. C. S.,” in full: “Bring your wife down to see us some evening. I will take care not to shock her with any radical opinions.” In fine condition. Accompanied by an original unsigned carte-de-visite portrait of Stanton by C. D. Mosher of Chicago. Stanton’s most well-known sitting with Rockwell came in 1895, the same year she published The Woman's Bible, and she also wrote a memoir in 1898—she probably desired Rockwell’s portrait for inclusion in one of them. A humorous letter from the great women’s rights leader.
