This lovely piece bears the Elite mark, which indicates that it was manufactured by Bawo & Dotter. While it would go on to become a leading manufacturer of fine French porcelain, the Bawo & Dotter Company was actually established in New York City in the 1860s to import porcelain, especially Limoges, into the US.
In the early 1870s, Bawo & Dotter established The Elite Works in Limoges to decorate the porcelain made by other factories. Their products included dinnerware, decorative pieces, and trinket boxes.
Porcelain production was interrupted by the First World War, but shortly after the war, Bawo & Dotter brought the William Guerin Company, which had in turn purchased the Pouyat company. The new company was christened Guerin-Pouyat-Elite, making use of all of the well-established product names. The company closed its doors in 1932.
This vase stands eight (8) inches tall, and is handpainted with soft yellow roses, and soft green and gray accents. It is in excellent undamaged condition. The mark on this piece dates it to the period between 1896 and 1920.
