Medical officer (1820-1857) and a member of two Arctic expeditions to rescue the explorer Sir John Franklin. He did discover Sir John Franklin's first winter camp, however, he did not find out what had happened to the fatal expedition. Partly-printed DS, signed “E. K. Kane,” one page, 7 x 5.25, January 20, 1850. Two identical conjoined Philadelphia Naval Shipyard receipts, numbers one and two, for $35.00 each signed at the bottom by Kane. Light intersecting folds, missing lower right corner tip, and a bit of scattered light toning, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned 1862 engraved portrait.
