Eli K. Price autograph letter signed regarding the Utah War. The lawyer writes to President James Buchanan in this letter, dated 17 November 1858, asking the President to publicly give an honorable mention to Thomas L. Kane for his role in mediating the dispute and bringing the conflict between the Mormons and U.S. Government to a peaceful resolution. It reads in part: ''As one of the many friends of Col. Thos L. Kane, I sympathized much in his expedition to the Mormons and...you were enabled to end that trouble without bloodshed. Fearing the pressure of important matters might occasion forgetfulness of what some of us believe it would be a pleasure to you to do. I write this note to say how much it would gratify Mr. Kane's friends to find his service noticed in your annual message...Eli K. Price''. Col. Thomas Leiper Kane would go on to distinguish himself in the Battle of Gettysburg. 2pp. letter on a single sheet of card-style stationery measures 5'' x 7.75''. Ink notation with date to verso and a pencil notation to the bottom edge. Near fine.
