Two TLSs, each one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Delegation to the United Nations letterhead, dated 1947–1948, both to Assistant Solicitor General George T. Washington. The first, in part: "As the First Session of the Commission on Human Rights draws to a close, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for having made available the services of Mr. Herzel Plaine, Mr. Turner Smith, and Mr. Frederick Folsom…I feel that each of these gentlemen made a very real contribution to the work of the U.S. Delegation." The second, in part: "Once more I want to thank you for having made available the able services of Mr. Herzel Plaine at a Human Rights Commission session. His knowledge of legal matters was extremely helpful during discussions of the proposed Covenant and his sound judgment was at all times of the greatest value." In overall very good to fine condition, with light wrinkling, and some envelope-related toning to the earlier letter. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope for the 1947 letter, stapled to the upper left corner.
