TLS, one page, 6 x 7, personal letterhead, February 26, 1946. Letter to Miss Phillips, in full: “I appreciate your kind invitation in behalf of the Massachusetts Library Association to speak at your meeting on January 30th and I regret I cannot accept. I expect to be serving on the Human Rights Commission at that time and cannot make any engagements.” In fine condition, with a few small spots of discoloration. Roosevelt would spend the next two years chairing the HRC, successfully drafting the crucial Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the UN in 1948.
