TLS, one page, 6 x 8.25, personal letterhead, November 30, 1950. Letter to Mrs. Meyers on equality, in part: "Of course, the F.E.P.C. law which guarantees that opportunities for employment should be open to all, regardless of race, color or creed, would not change the feelings of your child if you had not brought him up that way, but a law to back up your beliefs is a very useful thing. You are quite right that schools and churches and homes must do the basic work of changing human nature, but laws are valuable too and can be very usefully applied and appealed to when necessary. For instance, if we can get away from the questions that are usually on the application blanks for employment as to race, creed and color, it will be helpful." In fine condition, with two extra horizontal folds.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the Fair Employment Practice Committee (FEPC) in 1941, signing an executive order which stated that 'there shall be no discrimination in the employment of workers in defense industries or government because of race, creed, color, or national origin.'
