TLS as first lady, one page, 6 x 9.25, White House letterhead, April 25, 1934. Letter to Millicent Hearst, the wife of media tycoon William Randolph Hearst, in full: "I was perfectly delighted to find the trays when I arrived home after having lunch with you, and I cannot tell you how much pleasure you gave me by sending them, although I do feel a little guilty about having mentioned that I admired them. I can be with you for the party on the night of the 30th of May or, if the fleet comes in, the night of the 31st, provided I can get off at midnight for Boston. My boy graduates the next day. I would not be back in New York until June 5th and I fear that would be too late. Would May 28th be possible, or does the fleet not come in as early as that?" Roosevelt adds a handwritten postscript: "The last sentence was dictated before I talked with you. I will be there the 4th & I hope it will be a grand success!" In fine condition, with a rusty paperclip impression to the top edge. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
