Eleanor Roosevelt signed first edition of her rare book, ''Ladies of Courage'', written by the first lady herself, along with Lorena A. Hickok, and published by G.P. Putnam's Sons: New York: 1954. The front free endpaper is signed, ''Eleanor Roosevelt'' in blue ink. Volume centers on women in politics, beginning with an overview paying tribute to suffragist pioneers Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony and running through the era of the book's publication. The final chapter is entitled ''How To Break Into Politics'' and includes the sage advice, ''...Don't ever let yourself become just another party hack!...'' Runs 312pp. Bound in blue cloth boards with silver lettering to spine. Measures 6'' x 8.5''. Bookplate from a prior owner is affixed to front free endpaper, and a clipping of the dustjacket is affixed to the front pastedown, alongside a bookplate from the Hartford Ladies' Library. An additional segment of the dustjacket is affixed to the fly-leaf, a library card pocket is applied to the rear pastedown and board corners show fabric loss. Apart from ex-libris markings, very good condition.
