ALS signed “E. Gerry,” one page both sides, 7.25 x 9, March 14, 1807. Letter to his sister-in-law Mary Ricketts, settling the estate of his mother-in-law. In part: "Am sorry to learn that you have been confined by such a severe indisposition. It is probably a species of the influenza, which has attacked every one of my family: Mrs. Gerry & my youngest child very severely—as it has abated in your case, we flatter ourselves it will soon leave you in good health. I thank you for the schedule of your poor mamma's property, in the public funds & banks; & will write, as you propose, to your uncle & cousin on the subject of the money in their hands, as her trustees…I presume that the books & papers of your pappa were, at the request of your mamma, taken by your brother, Col. Thompson…If the papers which respect the annual income…give any information in regard to the legacies, I will thank you for a sketch of them, when you are at leisure." In fine condition, with seal-related paper loss to the integral address leaf. Provenance: The Malcolm S. Forbes Collection of American Historical Documents, Christie's, November 2, 2006.
