Elbert Henry Gary (1846–1927) Gary was elected as the first mayor of Wheaton when it changed from a village to an incorporated city from 1890 to 1892. He was an American lawyer and corporate officer. He was a key founder of U.S. Steel in 1901, bringing together partners J. P. Morgan, Andrew Carnegie, and Charles M. Schwab. The city of Gary, Indiana, a steel town, was named for him when it was founded in 1906. TNS 1 Page 5 ¼” x 6 ½”. New York September 25th, 1922. “Elbert H. Gary 71 Broadway New York” letterhead. Typed note signed “E.H. Gary” answering the autograph request “for collection of Mr. James P. Drummey”. There is a mounting remnant on the verso but it is in fine condition.
