Elaine Fried de Kooning (1918 - 1989) was an Abstract Expressionist painter, teacher, and writer who studied at the Leonardo da Vinci Art School and the American Artists School, and later became known for her portraits and abstract paintings, as well as her art criticism and teaching. Her most important portrait commission was of President John F. Kennedy, for the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library. She was married to Willem De Kooning, the Dutch painter.
