Elaborate and fine quality English silver hilted naval officer’s sword with finely painted porcelain grip showing scene of British war ship at center circa 1783. The hilt bears the London hallmarks for 1783 and the makers mark of William Kinman. The hilt shows an urn shape pommel with fluted guard and knuckle bow. The finely painted porcelain grip shows a couple of chips, normal aging and is genuine to the 18th century. The blade is in very good condition with light engraving and traces of blue and gilt. The blade measures approximately 32” and is flared and widened at the ricasso in the colchimarde style. A very attractive and high grade officer’s sword from the time where the English Navy challenged the world for the command of the seas shortly before Nelson’s victories. Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
