Elaborate Early 18th Century European Flintlock with Ivory and Pearl Inlaid Full Stock
Reminiscent of earlier made high art Wheelocks, this elaborately embellished European Flintlock long arm is of the finest quality. The lock is decorated with floral designs and the barrel also has floral designs as well as some simple punch dot engraving. All mountings are iron and the buttplate is steel secured by two screws, with the tang extending the full length of the comb and a hole in the center running approximately 4" into the butt. The buttplate is also decorated with floral designs. The trigger guard finial is a pineapple design and the rear tang extends within 3" of the butt. The stock is almost fully covered with ivory insets consisting of various animals, scrolls and dots with a solid border. The stock forearm also has two oval and one circular pearl inset on each side, and the buttstock has various floral and geometric design pearl insets. Complete with a wooden ram rod.

Condition: Fine. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina. The engraving is fading, however much is still visible. The stock is also very fine. With the exception of a repaired crack ahead of the rear ram rod pipe, almost all of the insets remain and overall there are a few minor dings and handling marks. The action is fine.
