Elaborate Dragon Headed Dagger with Matching Elaborate Sheath
Country of origin is unknown, but the overall design suggests a Middle Eastern or Chinese origin. The blade is 13" in length, single edged with a slight curve and no visible makers marks. Fitted with a very elaborate, multi-component hilt, consisting largely of silver finished gold, polished to different amounts at different parts to give an attractive contrast; the topmost section includes scroll engraved languets with a pair of upturned quillions shaped like dragon heads with scrollwork on the necks, and an additional pair of straight quillions with similar neck designs, the front dragon breathing fire which forms into a knuckleguard decorated with a grotesque demon head and terminated with an additional dragon, and the rear section consists of an octagonal grip with finger grooves on one flat and scrollwork on six others, and topped with a very large dragon head, 3" tall with glass inset eyes, fancy scrollwork accents and visible teeth and tongue. With a silver sheath, decorated with raised scrollwork, topped with a gold flower, and fitted with four hanging rings and floral decorated panels on the sides, finished in the same manner as the hilt. With a pair of hanging chains, measuring 15 5/8" and 16" long.

Fine overall. Blade is good, with some pitting and wear, while the hilt and sheath are excellent, with a highly attractive finish and a few minor handling marks overall.
