Manufactured in 1903 and subsequently rebarreled/rechambered and elaboratly professionaly embellished. Blade front and pinched frame rear sights. Floral scroll with punch dot engraving on the sides of the front sight. Vine leaf, silver inlayed engraving in triangular and half triangular patterns on the barrel with a silver inlaid muzzle band. Marked with the Colt one line address on the top of the barrel and "45 Colt" on the left side. The casehardened frame is raised relief scroll engraved with a lion on the recoil shield and a wolfs head on the loading gate. Marked with the Colt two line patent dates on the left side. The cylinder is scroll engraved with silver inlays and a double ring at the rear. The trigger guard and front strap are floral scroll, silver inlaid and border engraved. The back strap has a gold inlaid indian head at the top with "JACK BOWMAN" marked inside a floral border with silver inlaid accents. "HOWARD COLSON/ENGRAVER" is marked on the bottom. Matching serial numbers on the frame and backstrap. Fitted with carved ivory grips depicting western scenes with a mountain lions head on the left and a horses head on the right. The accompanying factory letter confirms the serial number, blue finish, grips as "Not Listed", 44/40 caliber, 4 3/4 inch barrel at the time of shipment and that the revolver was shipped April 24, 1903 to the Jackson Hughes Company in El Paso, Texas. Complete with a glass faced wood display case with a silver plaque engraved "COLT BUNTLINE SPECIAL/ 45 CAL 1871/ENGRAVED by EDWARD COLSON/ for JACK BOWMAN/ALL MATCHING NUMBERS 241291".

Condition: Professionally custom embellished with 95% of the blue finish remaining with a few marks from handling and storage. The cylinder shows a faint drag line. A faint scratch is visible on the left side of the barrel. The raised relief carved grips are very fine with an attractive yellow patina. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with some marks from handling and storage. This is a very impressive embellished Colt SAA!
