El Chino y la Mulata. Very rare mention
El Chino y la Mulata. Very rare mention of a "Chinese man and a Mulatto woman" in this document, 1668-73, at port of Callao (Peru). Claim of Montero vs. Limon, a mother against her son-in-law(?): her daughter has died; a farm and two houses at Callao are involved. This 8-pp. document (four of the pages have hand stamps) is unusual, as a Chinese slave and a Mulatto slave are mentioned. Asians in South America were rare at that time, the few contacts being occasional Spanish galleons between Callao and Asian ports bringing products and - on rare occasions - slaves. Pages hand cut, giving a "rustic" appearance. 8 1/2x 1 2. Some edge wear and ink erosion. Highly unusual.
