Eithne McNally appears to have been a friend of Ernest Hayes; a contemporary practicing in Dublin during this period. She is recorded as having a solo show in the Dublin Painter's Gallery, 14 - 27 September [year not recorded] which included thirty-four works, one third of which were portraits. In 1942 she submitted a still life to the Dublin Sketching Club and the RHA records two works from an address in Rusheen, Raheny, Co. Dublin in 1941 (landscape) and 1942 (Portrait of Mrs Victor Enoch). Ernest Hayes executed a portrait of the artist's sister, Dr. Nora McNally in 1940 exhibited with the Dublin Sketching Club. The following year a portrait of Eithne by the artist was made, sketches of which are contained in lot 111. In 1982 the finished oil of Dr. McNally and Eithne were recorded as in the collection of Miss McNally, Achill, Co. Mayo.
