Egyptology & German Archive
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Fascinating archive related to the family of German Egyptologist Heinrich Brugsch, including over 200 calling cards sent to the family's home after Brugsch passed away, letters praising Brugsch's work, cards, photographs, newspaper clippings, postcards, etc. The archive is untranslated although some of the letters to Brugsch's son are in English and several of them contain interesting medical content. Also included are: several letters to Dr. Otto Arendt who defended silver against Ludwig Bamberger, the exponent of the gold standard, a hotly contested issue in the German Empire; a signed photo of Walter Bloem, one of Germany's best-known nationalist writers and author of ''Brotherhood'' (Die Briiderlichkeit), the publication of which was a singular event in the Weimar Republic; several signed letters from Bloem; a rare typed Herman Hesse signed poem; a signed calling card from German Tenor Theodor Wachtel; a letter from diplomat Ernst von Wildenbruch; various German books.
