Ancient Egyptian"Rare Grieving Funerary Tomb Wall Relief"

The above listed item is from the New Kingdom Period,(1539-1075 B.C.E.). This unusual "Grieving Relief" was painted on a gesso-plaster Wood surface and was part of a larger tomb panel. We acquired this incredible piece from a select private collection and its provenance is from Luxor, Egypt. The scene depicts one women, one holding her left arm on her head grieving. This fragment panel is intact, has retained much of its black, green, orange, red and white colors. It also has areas of age wear. This would make a wonderful item for the Holidays! The reason for the item being available is due to the vast extent of archeological findings, thousands of years in Egyptian burials and also the proliferation of these said items in older private collections worldwide.

"Temple and Tomb Offerings"

The ancient Egyptian temple was more than just a house of worship. It was where the god lived and was where the deity took up residence took food, shelter, cleaned and clothed. It provided a reception area and an inner sanctum that was only accessable to the temple priests. When a new temple was finished it was consecrated in lavish fanfair. There was an "Opening of the Mouth" ceremony where the priests would perform a similar funerary rite and use an instrument to have the god enter the stone statue of the deity.
