A very unique piece indeed!

Superbly crafted shell cameo carved to represent a stylized female portrait mounted in a picture frame of yellow gold. Stunning deep carved detail of a left facing woman of means in period garb. Pleated shawl collared bodice with a double Gardenia corsage on left shoulder. Hair is also very detailed with carved waves embellished with a small flower at her right ear.
Frame is detailed with four delicately etched applied leaf cornices and scribed with a geometric pattern of X = - X surrounding the entire front and sides of the frame. Cameo is mounted in a oval hammered bezel within the rectangular frame.
Brooch measures 1.25 inches long with a 1 inch width and is highly dimensional. Older style pin stem with open 'c' clasp that has a "fold down" latch applied to hold the stem securely. There are two weld marks securing the Cameo within the inner oval bezel mounting in the back that has obviously been performed after its original making.
The Very Good rating we have given this brooch is only due to the work that has been done after purchase. In reality it is as near excellent as the day it was first created.
