American statesman (1764–1836) who helped draft the Louisiana Civil Code and served as Andrew Jackson’s secretary of state. Partly-printed DS, signed “Edw. Livingston,” one page, 11.5 x 15.5, September 29, 1831. Official passport issued to George Halliburton, providing instructions to “permit safely and freely to pass, George Halliburton, a Citizen of the United States.” Filled out along the left side with his physical description. Signed at the conclusion by Livingston as secretary of state. In very good condition, with show-through from stamps and endorsements to reverse, and a mounting strip to left edge.
