Haley Astronautics Award medal presented to astronaut Edward H. White II by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Bronze, 63 gm, 51 mm, designed by Frank J. Malina and manufactured by Dieges & Clust. The front features a celestial design of stars and planets, with raised text: “Astronautics–Award, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics”; and the reverse features a central plaque engraved, “Edward H. White II, 1967,” with orbit lines and encircling text: “Endowed in 1954 by Andrew G. Haley, First Chairman of the Space Flight Committee.” Includes the original blue presentation case. In fine condition, with two tears to the flap of the case. Originates from the Ed White II Family Collection.

This award was presented to White with a $500 stipend, money he used to create the Ed White Youth Center at the Seabrook, Texas Methodist Church. Entertainer Bob Hope learned of the Youth Center and, following the Apollo 1 tragedy, held a fundraiser at the Houston Astrodome on its behalf.
