Rare early postal cover postmarked at Pensacola, Florida, on April 6, 1967, signed in black felt tip, "Edw. G. Givens, Jr." and "Ken Mattingly." Collector's notations to upper left read: "3rd Group of Apollo Astronauts begin training at Ellyson Field Pensacola, Fla. They are Air Force Maj. Edward Givens Jr. and Navy Lt. Thomas Mattingly." In fine condition. Givens, a reluctant signer, was killed in an automobile accident on June 6, 1967, before being assigned to a prime or backup spaceflight crew, making his one of the toughest astronaut signatures to acquire. In his article 'The Rarest of them All,' noted collector Bob McLeod rates Givens's signature as 'perhaps the rarest of all NASA astronauts.'
