Handwritten poem on both sides of an off-white 4.75 x 7.25 sheet, signed and dated at the conclusion, "Edward E. Hale, Isle of Shoals, July 6, 1881." Hale writes a playful, unpublished poem, beginning: "An album wholly new, no spot of careful paint or careless blot its snow white pages shew, And I so happy as to think with what first words the guilty ink shall stain this virgin snow." In fine condition, with an old mounting strip along the top edge of the signed side.
