Edward Everett Collection. This lot contains four autograph letters signed by Edward Everett, orator, politician, reverend, and much more. He served in the U.S. House and Senate as well as being president of Harvard University, and he eventually added Secretary of State to his long resume of government positions. The first ALS is signed "Edward Everett." Two pages, 4.5" x 7", Boston, September 23, 1864. The letter was written to Gov. Andrew and it recommends the bearer of the letter for the post of lieutenant of the 61st regiment.

The second ALS is signed "Edward Everett." Two pages, 5" x 8", Boston, June 12, 1863. The letter discusses Everett's thanks for the copy of "Notes & Comments on Shakespeare" which was sent to him. He says he has been a long time student of "The Great Author." Everett was a well-educated man and this no doubt was of keen interest to him as a bookish person.

The third ALS is signed "Edward Everett." One page, 4.6" x 7.25", Summer Street, February 27, 1862. The letter was written to J.T. Fields Jr. Esq. and the content is routine.

The fourth and final ALS is signed "Edward Everett." Two pages, 4.5" x 7", Summer Street, September 28, 1864. The letter was written to Reverend R. Ellis and the content is routine; dealing with a dinner invitation.

The condition of the four letters is very fine on average; usual folds are present; slight soiling along fold lines. Otherwise excellent! From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
