<B>Edward Everett CDV and Autograph Letter Signed.</B></I> 2.5 pages, 5" x 7.5", foldover lettersheet, Richmond, March 18, 1856, to S. B. Ruggles regarding an oration he did on George Washington in New York. In part:"<I>...In a rash moment, I said to Mrs. Cunningham that I would repeat my address on the Character of Washington for the benefit of the fund for the purchase of Mount Vernon...</B></I>" Everett was the predominant speaker of his day, present at the dedication of the Gettysburg Cemetery where he presented a 58 paragraph oration; however the world will forever remember Lincoln's brief but powerful Gettysburg Address. Also included is a signature on a card, 3.5" x 2", on which he has added "<I>Boston, Mass</B></I>". Very fine condition, the letter has minor mounting traces. <I>From the Henry E.
