Leading English composer (1857–1934) and a significant figure among late Romantic European musicians. Signed book: The Music Makers. First edition. London: Novello & Co., 1912. Softcover, 7 x 10, 86 pages. Signed vertically in black ink on the title page, “Edward Elgar, Hereford, Vasa House, 1927.” Originally owned by Catherine Underwood, a lifelong friend of Elgar found listed in his 1920s address book, who has added a pencil ownership signature, “C. Underwood” to the front cover. Autographic condition: very good, with moderate scattered foxing and a few stray ink marks to the signed page. Book condition: G+/None. Manila wraps; edges worn; soiling and foxing to exterior and first/last few pages; wraps detaching from spine, with creases and some small tears along edges.
