Featured in this lot we have a framed photogravure of Washo Native American basket weaver Datsolali by Edward S. Curtis circa 1924. Datsolali was a Washo Native American who is known as a innovator of basket making, as she introduced non traditional and unique designs into her baskets and often used non traditional materials. This photogravure shows Datsolali in her later years looking past the photographer with her head covered with a shawl. The piece is marked in the upper left corner reading "Plate 540" and across the bottom "Datsolali, Washo Basket-Maker - From Copyright photograph 1924 by E. S. Curtis - Photogravure Suffolk Eng. Co. Cambridge, Mass.". The photogravure is set into a wonderful custom oak frame with excellent grain patterns and a brown border around the art. The piece shows very good condition overall. The frame measures 23 1/2" wide by 27 3/4" tall with the photogravure measuring 12 3/4" wide by 16 1/2" tall.
