American architect (1822–1902) who served as Architect of the Capitol from 1865 to 1902, overseeing the completion of the iconic Capitol dome. ALS signed “Edward Clark, Architect U.S. Capitol,” one page, 8 x 10, Architect's Office, U.S. Capitol letterhead, April 21, 1885. Letter to Lord's Horticultural Manufacturing Co., in part: "The Plant table is at the lower edge of iron sill, say 16? from floor, as shown in accompanying section. Mr. Smith desires, that there should be no solid wooden panels above iron sill, as you proposed, but Glass sash (as indicated in tracing) in order to admit as much light as possible." Includes the referenced original hand-drawn "Cross Section" diagram on an off-white 9 x 8.5 sheet. Mounted and framed side-by-side to an overall size of 22 x 14. In very good to fine condition, with feathering to Clark's signature, and creasing to the drawing.
